Trimming the Trees

Trimming the Trees

That phrase took on a whole new meaning when I visited a local grower who produces, among many other plants, the Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees that Breck’s Gifts offers for the holidays.

These delightful diminutive trees are grown to exacting specifications for size and shape. It takes five or six years to reach Breck’s standards. Each year they are taken from the fields, inspected by a knowledgeable crew, carefully shaped by an expert staff, and are then returned to the fields and allowed to grow fuller and shapelier with each passing season.

The farm itself is nestled in the hills southwest of Portland, nearly a thousand acres dedicated to growing cold-tolerant evergreen and deciduous flowering shrubs, conifers and perennials. Their Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees are shipped all across the country to decorate homes for the holidays.

Christmas Tree GrowersThis classic conifer is slow growing, eventually reaching a mature height of only 6’ to 12’ high, and is so carefree it rarely even needs pruning to keep its appealing shape. Dwarf Alberta Spruce trees are ideal for adding classic structure to formal gardens, and creating charming focal points in informal beds. They are perfect for containers, either flanking an entryway or providing year-round color on decks and patios. And when they’re decorated for the holidays, it’s a magical sight!

Breck’s Dwarf Alberta spruce trees are decorated before they’re shipped – and there’s a tree for every taste and style! I love Breck’s classic silver-and-gold decorated tree, and I’m planning to send this sweet tree to a baker friend. Pick two to create a festive entryway, or add a these miniature tannenbaum to your tabletop decor. These trees are perfect for adding Christmas cheer to an apartment or dorm room, and they make great send-able gifts.
